The Road(Ster) Trip – Miami in a gold fashion

I’ve been many times to Florida in my life, but never to organize Miata meetings. I’m glad I’ve been able to do so, it’s been over 10 years I deal with awesome customers from this state and it was the time to give back.

Funny enough, many of the people who attended both events met me during Miatas At The Gap. During the first part of my Road(Ster) Trip, I’ve had A LOT of driving and it was time for me to relax just a little. I decided to stay 4 weeks in Florida to catch up with emails, orders and take a bit of (me) time.

***I’D LIKE TO APPOLOGIZE FOR HOW LATE I’M CREATING THIS BLOG POST, BUT I’M CATCHING UP WITH LIFE***

Wynwood (Miami)

And here is the last time someone saw my car in its grey form. I decided to do a photoshoot in one of my favorite spot in Miami : Wynwood District.

The biggest highlight of this trip was the fact that I decided to change the color of my car without really telling anyone. I wanted something that would be unique, yet keep some of the classiness of the car. I went with Autoflex (made by Plastidip) which is a liquid vinyl with a clear coat that you spay on the vehicle to change the color, but most importantly, to protect the paint underneath. I knew I had a very long way to go on my trip, so if I could keep my Machine Grey color intact underneath, it would be awesome.

The result was pretty awesome, I was ready for a disaster, but it ended up looking pretty sweet.

Miami

This was just weeks before the Hurricane Irma happened. The weather really was AGAINST us, it was raining for a few days, but we still managed to do the meeting. I took pictures of pretty much all of those who came to the event! As usual, we went to a craft beer spot : The Tank Brewing Co. Here are some pictures of the event~

Neat NB with 15” Enkei RPF1-RS Wheels :

NC with some extra power~

Matt (Captain Slow)’s NC

Nice NC rocking Nissan R32 Wheels & the Garage Vary Eyelids

My friend Erik I met at Miatas At The Gap

And then, a whole bunch of people came up, it really was an awesome event!

Oh and a non-Roadster came, too!

At one point, the brewery staff offered us to bring the ND Demo Car inside of their bar for a location, that was pretty great!

After the event, we went for a little drive in Miami and ended up doing an awesome photo with the city landscape (which ended up on Mazda USA’s Instagram and landed 5.8k likes, really proud of this one)! It really shows the beauty of the 17” Advan RZ Wheels as well as the Rallybacker ND Low Ducktail Spoiler.

I hope you enjoyed this post about the Miami event! More to come in the next weeks~

The Road(Ster) Trip – Visit at R-Speed & drive South with new mods

I usually only do blog posts about cities & meets I organize, this one is a little different. I found out I kind of forgot to post some very nice upgrades that I did on my demo car (and some of them were temporary, you’ll read about it in the next blog posts…)!

***I’D LIKE TO APPOLOGIZE FOR HOW LATE I’M CREATING THIS BLOG POST, BUT I’M CATCHING UP WITH LIFE***

After I organized the Atlanta Meet, I went at my friend Joe’s shop (R-Speed) to have some work done on my car.

R-Speed

It’s one of the pioneer in the Miata tuning community. Everyone who works there knows a lot about Miatas and are very friendly (talk to Hector, you’ll see what I mean). They will solve ANY problem in term of mechanical work on all years Miatas, I couldn’t recommend them more. I went up there to install some small parts, but the main piece we had to do were the Odula ND Side Skirts! You can also see the very nice Rallybacker ND Low Ducktail Spoiler and Odula ND Rear Diffuser. Due to the reduction of clearance, we also raised the car height by about 5-10mm as otherwise the side steps were way too low.

For those who don’t know much about R-Speed, it’s a very cool shop specialized in Miatas, down the road near Atlanta.

You’ll always be able to find the spare part you’re looking for…

… or the spare car!

Another thing we did was to install some fresh Advan Center Caps onto my Advan RZ 17×8 Wheels. We also swapped my lug nuts for some very nice Project Kics Leggdura RL53 Lug Nuts.

As it had been one (very) long week, I decided to cool it off at my favorite spot in Atlanta : Monday Night Brewing and meet some Roadster Friends (unfortunately, camera died before I could take pictures of their cars).

And here are some different angles of the Odula ND Side Steps :

You can see it flows pretty well with the TK Style ND Front Lip :

Drive to the South

As I left Atlanta, I decided to take some pictures on the road as I believe the scenery was really nice and it was just another reason to take photos of my car. At one point, I drove by an abandoned Gulf gas station and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was… the sky and everything, so dark.

And then it was time to hit the road again…

I hope you enjoyed this picture-heavy blog post about some small changes on my car… will continue updating the Road(Ster) Trip posts as much as I can in the next weeks!

The Road(Ster) Trip – Miatas At The Gap (MATG)

Miatas At The Gap is an event I’ve been attending for the past 2 years (and also been there about 8 years ago). I always look forward meeting new friends and driving a little too fast! Here’s the only picture I got from 8 years ago with my NA Demo Car :

***I’D LIKE TO APPOLOGIZE FOR HOW LATE I’M CREATING THOSE BLOG POSTS, BUT I’M CATCHING UP WITH LIFE***

It all started at the small cabin I rented, the morning I arrived, I met with some long time customer (Jaime, with Garage Vary Tail Lights & Nakamae Type-R Seats (plus lots of interior goodies) as well as a forum legend (username was Doppelganger, now running a Mazdaspeed NB with 17” TE37)… for those who know about him!

This year was no different than before, lots of driving, meeting new friends, trying craft beers and discovering new roads (beers were after driving, of course).

I started by having my new REV9 Door Decals (available soon) done in Carbon Fiber to give it a “phantom look”, made by my friend Scotty:

We did organize a meeting and there was a bit of misinformation about it… we ended up being only 2 people for the first hour. Then, a bunch of people arrived!

There was this cool NC rocking the Garage Vary Front Lip and Garage Vary Front Grille Insert:

That red car parked next to him drove all the way from Texas (we actually met last year) and he was really slow… (actually, he was the fastest out of our group):

There was also this ND which I had a very hard time keeping up with until I realized he had tuned ECU ^_^

And those flashy Floridians which we later became best friends~

That’s a lot of loudness here:

After the event, we went for some rolling shot, and it turned out pretty good! I had finally decided to install the Zeromotive Aeroguard-II and I can tell you that it saved my TK-Style Front Lip from being destroyed (Thanks for my friend Jonathan for the awesome shot).

And, after that, a little group of us decided to go for some fun driving… ^_^

I ended up chasing two white FC3S RX-7 with serious oil leakage issue as I had difficulty breathing when I was following them -_-

We finally stopped to enjoy the beginning of the sunset (and let engine cool down)

^^ This shows how the Odula Rear Diffuser looks with the Integral Kobe Type-US Muffler as well as the Rallybacker Low Ducktail Spoiler~

And even my friend from this morning found us (cool shot of his Runabout M2 Mirrors):

We finally headed back to Fontana Village to go for a craft beer exchange and did a very last photoshoot :

It was an awesome event that I look forward doing again, even though it’s a straight 20+ hours drive from home. It’s always great to meet other enthusiasts, get scared driving the Dragon and make friends. The blog post of the next event I organized is actually already online, check it out : Road(Ster) Trip – Charleston Meet & Road(Ster) Trip – Atlanta Meet

The Road(Ster) Trip – Atlanta Meet

Our Atlanta meet was a bit of a mess. Date and location changed a few times, and it was super last-minute, so I didn’t expect many people to show up. It still was a very fun and great to meet some customers in person!

The parking was also a bit sketchy (anyone that was low scraped)… but the turnout was still pretty cool!

This ND was pretty slick with some Rays 57Transcend 17” Wheels, Silk Blaze Front Bumper Duct Covers and beautiful Leg Sport Ducktail Spoiler!

This Mazdaspeed NB was rocking one of our Garage Vary Carbon Fiber Hood, so cool looking!

A NA came… it sounded pretty mean… and it was!

We also had another ND with Brembo/BBS package in Ceramic Metallic!

NB with truck bedliner paint anyone? That thing is permanent.

And a cool trio of NAs!

My ND was still intact from the intense driving at Tail Of The Dragon! If you look closely, you can see that I put some Aeroguard-II under my front lip… those are A MUST for any car that is lowered.

At the end of the meeting, an EG Civic drove by with a pretty non-street-legal drag setup and asked if we were doing that REV9 meeting. I asked him if he had a Miata, he said no, but said he had some of my parts on his car… this got me a little bit confused. Then, I saw that he was rocking the REV9 (ebay) intercoolers which are NOT our products… still, funny to see that in our meet!

Hope you enjoyed this quick blog post!

The Road(Ster) Trip – VA Beach & Charleston

I am doing another double post for the REV9 Meetings that were held in Virginia Beach, VA and Charleston, SC. I know that the timeframe does not work well because there was technically the Deal’s Gap & Atlanta meeting in between, but since the Charleston Meeting was so small, I figured out I would add it to this post.

Let’s start with the first meeting;

Virginia Beach

After driving many hours from Philadelphia, I finally arrived to Virginia Beach. This city is definitely one of my favorite, people are super nice, weather is also pretty much perfect. The meeting was held at Commonwealth Brewing, a very new and modern brewery not too far from Virginia Beach’s city center.

When I arrived, there were already a lot of people attending the event. The turnout was much better than I anticipated, mostly because 757 Miatas shared the event in their group, I guess!

I believe we were over 20+ people who attended this event :

There were many cool cars;

A NC1 with very nice ride height:

A NC3 with over 400 WHP running Enkei PF01 17” Wheels:

A NB with pretty unique theme;

A NA with Maine (state) plate that had a little something under the hoodl…

Some gangster NAs;

And I even had someone who did the same exact thing as me and switched from ND Soft Top to ND RF;

Even GTRs & Bimmer showed up at the meeting…

It was also the first time someone asked me to sign his valve cover… I’m pretty proud of it! Another guy even asked me to sign his REV9 cap!

And the owner of the said valve cover enjoyed posing next to my demo car!

It was fun meeting so many friendly people, I had a blast! I even received a custom T-Shirt with REV9 & 757 Miatas, that really made my day! Funny thing, to do the group picture, we had to block a street and it took just 5 minutes for the cops to notice… fun times!

You can see rest of VA Beach Meeting Photos by clicking this link : REV9 Virginia Beach Meeting Photos (not ready yet).

And now the small feature of the next meeting. I’m skipping REV9 Deal’s Gap Meet because it is very picture intensive and will be on a single post.

Here is the second feature;

Charleston

This meeting was kind of odd. It somehow got shared on a Subaru & Scion facebook group and we were outnumbered by those guys… haha! The location was Frothy Beard Brewery and they were doing a trivia night at the same time as our meeting… the place was packed!

Also, it kept on raining, so I did not expect much to be honest.

We managed to bring a group of 5 people, and as bad as I am, I forgot to bring a SD cars for my SLR Camera, so I only have this pitiful photo from a phone:

It was fun nonetheless, and I met cool people and enjoyed some great beers with them!

The same night, I went with my friend from Ciotti Industries (@ciottimonkey) for some light painting… result was pretty awesome!

The Road(Ster) Trip – NYC & Philadelphia

I’d like to apologize for the time it takes me to create the blog posts. With all the travelling and great people I met, I tried to take some time for myself. I’m doing this blog post related to the 2 meetings that I did in both New York City, NY and Philadelphia, PA.

I also noticed it took me hours to make those blog posts every time, so, in the future, I’ll show the highlights, showcase customers and post rest of the pictures I took on a facebook photo album!

Let’s start with the first one;

New York City

The meeting was organized in coordination with my friend Jameson which is a long-time customer and I never had the chance to meet in person. The meeting was held in beautiful Astoria Park in the Bronx. The location was just outside of Manhattan island with beautiful view of bridges;

The meeting was held on a Thursday night and I’m proud to say it is the most popular REV9 Meet ever organized!

People kept on coming, to a point where parking was a big issue!

At one point, we even parked the cars on the bicycle lane… because Miata > Bicycles.

Here are some cars worth mentioning (I wish I could do it for all of them, but my time is limited…)

The lonewolf (I am not sure if he was part of the meet or just was here at the same time… he did not stay very long)

A true Japanese culture fan:

Some fearless people with static suspensions (it’s New York roads afterall)…

A beautifully modded ND with red Rays MTE37 16” Wheels, Garage Vary Type-2 Front Lip, Bride Low Max Seats, DAMD Suede Steering Wheel and many more mods…!

Jonathan’s Ceramic Metallic ND with 1993LE Red Nakamae Sports Seat Covers! So classy.

A NB with a really nice paint job… that color was perfect on there!

Kevin’s NA with beautiful Jet Stream Original Headlights, Garage Vary Front Lip & Enkei RPF1 14”!

Jameson’s NA with REV9 OE-Style Fender Flares, Enkei RPF1 14” Wheels and lots of other goodies (yes, there was a cone on the top)!

This NA just had so many stuff on it that I have to showcase it;

I also saw (very late) a very good customer’s interior that was built over a long time with a lot of very rare parts sourced at REV9 (sorry for bad pictures)! The car was pristine, with a fresh paint job! It’s pretty sad I don’t have any good picture of it.

And, of course, the REV9 Demo Car with Advan RZ 17” Wheels, Rallybacker Low Ducktail Spoiler & TK Style Carbon Front Lip.

The meeting finished up pretty late. I am glad SO MANY people showed up, it was such a fun event!

You can see rest of NYC Meeting Photos by clicking this link : REV9 NYC Meeting Photos. (coming soon)

I also did a photoshoot of my car in beautiful New York City, you can see it here : ND RF Project Classy.

Now, let’s check the 2nd meet that was held just a few days later. It was much smaller too, but the place was awesome for pictures!

Philadelphia

I arrived early, so did a little photoshoot of my car…

The meeting was held at Evil Genius Brewing and their location as well as beers were pretty awesome.

We’ve had about ~10 person to attend the meeting and it was really fun!

A red & slammed NA arrived at one point and it was VERY loud… when the owner showed me the 13B engine in the engine bay, I was amazed. It’s probably the neatest setup I ever had the chance to see… it took him 3 years to get the car to this point:

He came accompanied by another very neat car….

Perfect couple, isn’t it?

At last, someone arrived almost when everyone was gone, he drove a few hours to meet us, and his car was pristine. The color is not mariner blue, it’s a variation of it. And the interior was black before being changed for tan… it was a really beautiful piece!

You can see rest of Philly Meeting Photos by clicking this link : REV9 Philadelphia Meeting Photos. (coming soon)

I hope you enjoyed this double blog post! I did it very quickly as I’m trying to catch up with the meetings that were held in Virginia Beach, Deal’s Gap, Atlanta & Charleston. I also need to prepare for the upcoming meeting in Miami and Tampa Bay! I also want to say that I am sorry I cannot showcase every single car on my blog posts, but if you came to the meeting, I hope you’ll see yourself in the photo album!

The Road(Ster) Trip – Garage Quinn Motors (GQM)

This is the second part of my Road(Ster) Trip which is happening in Connecticut. Now, this is a special feature I’m doing on Garage Quinn Motors (GQM) as it really deserves it! We could also call this place :

-Fantasy Land

-Land of 1990 Dreams

-Awesometown

-Etc.

My car felt like a stranger in there, but with so many Mazdas around it, it quickly was happy to be there:

The place is just insane, with lots of cool parts hanging around:

But the parts are not what’s important in here… IT’S THE CARS!!!

Here is the GQM NB IRTB pushing around 185whp with cool parts on it like Garage Vary Front Lip, Garage Vary Carbon Canards, Garage Vary Tail Lights, Advan RG-II Wheels, Mazdaspeed Rear Lip:

He also has a turbo NA pushing 254whp… just for fun~

Car is beautiful with Work Equip 15” Wheels, Garage Vary Front Lip, Garage Vary Nostalgic Tail Lights, KG Works Ducktail Spoiler, ZOOM Carbon MirrorsNardi 330MM Steering Wheel and A LOT of custom interior work!

He also had some non-Roadster cars worth mentioning…

Not Quinn’s, but a friend’s…

He has such beautiful cars, it was like being in a modern 90’s tuner museum! Hope you enjoyed this blog post! For those wondering, the ND demo car now has TK Style Carbon Front Lip, Beatrush Tow Hook & Advan RZ 17×8 Wheels installed.

We also got the chance to test drive my demo car on his “personal track”… it was one hell of a thrill. You can see preview of what’s to come on Garage Quinn Motor’s Youtube Channel:

The Road(Ster) Trip – Connecticut

This is the first blog post on my epic trip throughout USA. This is a lifetime dream I’m doing right now to travel the whole USA & parts of Canada! My first stop was in Southington, Connecticut. Many asked me why I stopped at this place and not somewhere else… the main reason is that I got to meet the legendary Quinn Kizis from Garage Quinn Motors.

The meeting was held at Witchdoctor Brewing Company in the back parking lot. It was actually a great turnout, bigger than some meets I did in the past and I got to meet some of my long time customers!

It was my first official reveal of the ND Classy Demo Car (blog post to come). It seemed to impress most people who were not sure if they liked the RF or not… it seems they now do!

I’m going to skip the interior shots because I keep this for another blog post, but the car did look great during this meeting. I have the TK Style Front Lip, Advan RZ 17×8 Wheels & Beatrush Front Tow Hook already installed! The Rallybacker Low Ducktail Spoiler is also a great addition…

Unfortunately, I managed to ding the hood in the first 1500 miles of the car… that’s what happens when you speed on the highway!

We had a lot of nice & cool roadsters & non-roadsters who showed up:

Here they are:

A clean silver NA with roll bar:

A weird red N#???

The whole condiment set:

A NB that had a mixed opinion front lip:

GQM’s IRTB NB with beautiful Advan RG-II 16×8 Wheels, Garage Vary Front Lip & Garage Vary Front Canards:

The engine bay is just perfect and so clean…

The interior was not neglected either, it’s pretty much one of the most perfect NB’s interior I ever had the chance to see with custom Lotus seats!

This NA owner drove all the way from Rhode Island (3 hours) to meet us!!! Glad he made it to the meet!

Some other beautiful specimens of Roaster:

The meeting was short but I was so glad to meet a bunch of enthusiasts who drove just to meet with us! It was great!

The next day, Quinn showed me what Garage Quinn Motors is all about… I’m going to make an additional blog post about it because the garage is WAY too intense to fit in this blog post. Stay tuned, we’re doing meetings ALL OVER the USA and you can see the whole list of places we’re going here as well as on our REV9 Facebook page. Join our Road(Ster) Trip Facebook Group if you want to be informed in real time about what’s happening during our USA trip!

Our 2017 USA & Canada Miata Road(Ster) Trip

For a long time, I dreamed about “doing the USA” by car. This year was REV9’s 10th Anniversary and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to live a life long dream and meet with customers and enthusiasts!

Last year, I did a Road(Ster) Trip and went all the way from Quebec to Texas (Houston & Austin) and drove back home. I made many friends and had lots of fun.

(Picture from Houston meeting)

This year, I’m planning to travel across most of the USA (except some states as I cannot be everywhere, unfortunately) and come back by Canada!

I’ve created a facebook group called Road(Ster) Trip – North America that I suggest you to join if you’re from USA or Canada so you can get access to information about meetings before others~

5000 miles in a 2016 (Modified) ND MX-5 Miata

If you followed my whole adventure: The Road(ster) Trip, you probably noticed that it was a LOT of mileage on a non-stock vehicle. The car is lowered (on coilovers), has wider tires, a loud exhaust, a few engine modifications, minimal chassis bracing and some comfort modifications. It’s not heavily modified, but it’s far from having the same feeling as the stock car, too.

Here is my review of how the modifications affect the overall feel of the car during long distance driving and on a few mountain roads.

First of all, some of you may see this as a sales pitch for my products. I have to say that I totally endorse them and couldn’t be happier with them. Are there some less expensive options? Probably. Are there some better products? That’s possible. As far as I’m concerned, I always prefer to run the higher quality parts to the cheaper ones. In the long term, the resale value of the quality parts stays high, you don’t have a car that looks the same as 100 other ones and you are not afraid of failure because of quality control (all our parts meet the highest standards for quality).

So, in no particular order:

Suspension Review

I am running the Cusco Street Zero Coilovers. These are in no way meant to be raced, but still, they managed to be pretty awesome on the mountain roads (see the videos I did when I was at Deal’s Gap). I felt like the car still had some slight body roll due to its suspension being on the “softer” side, but coming from the OEM Bilstein to these made a very big difference. The Bilstein are very hard and probably aimed more towards racing. The Cusco provided me with the look I wanted and gave me SO much extra comfort; it made the car a pleasure to drive. After 5000 miles, I feel like I made the car a nicer “street car” than what it was on stock suspension. However, if I were to race the car, I’d probably go for a firmer suspension with more adjustments. Overall, since I raised my suspension by 10mm, the car can be driven pretty much everywhere without worrying much about bottoming out.

It is hard to notice from the looks, but it made a HUGE difference.

Wheels & Tires Review

I absolutely love the look of my Advan RZ 17×8 +35 wheels, and it seems that everyone who saw the car in person had the same opinion. The concave spokes give the ND a much more aggressive look. The fact that they are lightweight and solid made me confident driving everywhere with them and did not affect the performance of the car in a negative way. The 8” width paired with slightly wider tires gave the car more grip than stock and a very nice road feel.

DSC_0108

The Yokohama S.Drive were nice tires for rain and overall driving, but they were really bad during spirited (or semi-racing) driving. I was not very confident pushing the car too much on corners and would keep the traction control ON all the time since the tires were slippery when they were abused. Their only good point would be that even though I did 5000 miles and so many runs at Deal’s Gap, while having some camber, they didn’t wear out much.

DSC_0990

I’ll probably go for some stickier tires next year. It seems like Bridgestone RE71Rs are the way to go.

Brake Pads Review

I changed my stock brake pads for some pads that ACRE recommended to me: the Acre Light Sports Brake Pads. They said that these are perfect for those who don’t do competition racing and intend to drive the car in a more aggressive way. I gotta say, these pads are damn near perfect. They grip sooner, they don’t seem to fade at all and they really give a more aggressive feel to the car. The OEM ND pads are great, and when you come from a NA and NB, you feel like the ND is a braking monster. But, when you’re used to the ND and switch to better brake pads, it’s day-and-night difference. I loved the fact that they did not produce too much brake dust, they didn’t squeal at all and did not need to be warmed to be efficient. During my runs at Deal’s Gap, they were great and reminded me that my tires were not so great.

Knuckle Brace Support Review

One little modification that I really enjoyed was the Nielex Knucle Support Brace. After installing it, I didn’t have to correct steering much during highway driving and it felt like a totally different vehicle. The front end was much stiffer and it felt more “solid” with much less flex towards the front suspension. There’s a whole debate about it on some forums, but in my experience, everyone who tries it can really say that there’s a difference between this and stock. It’s personally one of my favorite modifications and Nielex told us that they sold hundreds of them to ND owners who all appreciate it. Some people who tried the car said that the feeling is similar to adding a bigger front sway bar to the vehicle. To me, it felt like the car was much more “connected” to me.

Exhaust Review

I’ll keep this one short, as I’ll post a full review of the Fujimura Gentle Sound Exhaust in the next days or weeks. At first, I was not sure about running a single tip exhaust that was a bit angled. After a while, I got used to it and really started to like the minimalistic look.

I first thought that the exhaust was extremely loud, but it seems that the ND is just VERY silent from factory. When compared to NA, NB and NC, it seemed that my exhaust was not much louder than other cars. One thing I have to say is that it feels awesome to hear the vehicle when you push it (which you don’t get with stock). But when driving on the highway, the exhaust becomes silent. No annoying drone or anything to make a long trip abominable. On cruise control, we really couldn’t hear it.

Also worth noting is a point a friend of mine made: Loud Pipes Save Lives. That’s very true; when you pass trucks (or higher vehicles), you can just put the pedal to the floor and they’re guaranteed to know someone’s next to them. It helped me avoid many incidents during this trip.

DSC_0125

Intakes Review

I am running the Autoexe Sports Induction Box paired with the Odula Air Filter as well as the Odula Intake Elbow (prototype). I can’t really say that I felt any difference in power. The Autoexe piece might actually have made things worse when I was in the South USA because it would suck some hot air. That said, the car still felt good and did not have issues, even in heavy rain.

DSC_0108_2

The sound from the intake, however, really was nice and cool to hear. I’d say that for me (living up North), it’s a good setup, but not optimal. Let’s say that it’s more of a “sound enhancement” than a performance upgrade. Still, my car is in no way meant to be a competitive racer, so I just enjoyed it. I’m patiently waiting for Japanese companies to release a nice and effective 2.0L Intake Option.

Seat Covers Review

One thing that everyone who sat in or drove my car said was: “I can’t believe how comfortable those seats are”. I have to agree with them 100%. Putting on those Autowear Seat Covers was one very nice comfort modification. The middle piece of the seat cover has a ~0.5” play so that when you sit on it, your spline does not directly touch the seat. It’s hard to explain, but it makes the seat super comfortable and I can say that after driving 5000 miles in the car, I did not have any back pain. The OEM seats are great, but adding the covers just made them much more comfortable and really great for long distance driving. I’ve actually never felt fatigue on my back since I’ve had them. Also, the synthetic leather is non-slippery and spill safe, so it’s pretty great overall.

Steering Wheel Review

I will also do a full review of the steering wheel later, so I’ll keep it short again. I put the REAL Japan Leather Steering Wheel in my car. It’s a D-Shaped Steering Wheel with perforated leather. I gotta say that during the whole trip, it felt great. The grip was awesome, it never became slippery and it was thicker than the OEM. The “bumps” on the steering wheel at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock also felt great during spirited driving.

After 5000 miles, you can see that the perforated leather got dirty (from sunscreen), but other than that it still looks the same and shows no sign of use. I guess I’ll be able to clean the sunscreen inside the holes somehow with a good washing product.

I would say that there is no way I would ever come back to the original steering wheel after having such a quality steering wheel in my hands. The original one just feels cheap compared to this thicker and nicer looking one.

Front Spoiler Review

I installed the RS Factory Stage Front Spoiler during my trip. I have to say that I have mixed feelings about it. While I really love the look of it, I think it made me lose some “travel” with the front end of the vehicle. In the past, the lowest points of the vehicle were the two diffusers in front of the front wheels, and I would scrape them every now and then. Now, the front spoiler is the part that scrapes everywhere. Before installing it, I could enter my driveway (super steep) without scraping and now here’s what it does…

It’s a nice looking part and the issue is probably more my driveway that’s at a terrible angle, but for me, it might be a part that’s going to be removed in the future. Still, the look is very nice and mimics the look of a front lip without paying the high price for it.

Tow Hooks Review

The Beatrush Tow Hooks were pretty cool to have on the shop car. It gave the car a nice racing look and also saved the paint of my bumper when parking in the city. I know they are not intended to be used to protect the bumper, but I decided to use them this way. On a long road trip, including multiple big cities, things happen. And I know for a fact that the bigger the cities are, the less people care about their cars. That’s why it was a nice feeling to park the car with the hooks and not care about having someone else’s paint on the car. It’s also very easy to install and remove, so, for me, it was pretty useful. I quite like the look, so I keep them on all the time.

Cellphone Holder Review

I wouldn’t usually even consider this a mod, but oh my god it was a great feature to have. The ZOOM Ventilation Cellphone Holder is so convenient to use, and allows you to put your phone in a nice location to use WAZE or just select music. It can be rotated so you can use it vertically or horizontally. Instead of having your phone jumping around inside the car, it’s held firmly and conveniently. I’m actually putting this phone holder in all my other cars because it’s so nice to have. The great thing too is that it’ll work with any phone or case and you can put your phone in it with one hand in less than a second. The position in the ND is great — the only drawback is that you lose a bit of ventilation, but it’s no big deal (after 5000 miles and different types of weather, I’m talking from experience).

Part I wish I had

After 5000 miles, there are features that you realize you wish you had. One part I wish I had was Wide Angle Mirrors. When the top is down, it’s no big deal. However, when the top is up, the dead angle on the mirrors is just ridiculous. I almost had a few accidents because I couldn’t see the car in the dead angle. I know from experience (because I ran them in my NB), the wide angle mirrors solve that problem. Also, the blue tint from the mirrors is great against fatigue at night and when being followed by cars with high beams.

That’s pretty much the only thing I felt would make the car perfect. Other than that, the whole package from the ND is pretty awesome as-is.

Well, this was the review of most parts I installed and how they improved my overall trip over having a stock car. I’m certain the stock car is awesome for road trips, but I feel I improved it in so many ways it became a perfect car for road tripping. I want to say that this is an honest review about the parts we offer for the ND that I felt were great to have during a long road trip. Some may agree, some may disagree with my sayings, but I can confirm that they were great for this 5000 miles trip.

Next year, I’m considering doing the whole of the USA and Canada for REV9’s 10th Anniversary, so many of these parts will be tested for longevity too. However, it’s very possible that I’ll run other parts, depending what’s new on the market~
